My big project for the summer is repainting the exterior window trim. The paint started peeling last year and I'm delighted to have an excuse to get rid of the ugly green. My house has too many colors--beige, grey, black, green and white. I've decided that by peeling, the green has volunteered to leave first. I want to remove the fake shutters (also peeling) this summer too, but I don't have the courage to check the condition of the siding behind the shutters just yet.
Now that the storm windows are down, I've got a better idea of what I'm facing. It doesn't look like the scraping part will be too bad, but (there's always a but, isn't there?) I have a little problem with rotting wood. And by little, I mean waaay too big to just scrape out and fill in with wood putty.
This is the kitchen window, after a bit of exploratory digging, but there's plenty of rot still to scrape out. One of the bedroom windows has a similar problem, except some genius tried the scrape and wood putty patch trick, but without scraping away the rotted wood first. I don't actually know how to fix a problem this big, so some research is definitely in order. Please chime in if you have a suggestion.
Either that, or a winning Powerball ticket. I'd be good with that, too.
