Road rage
While I was driving home from work this evening, I was startled when the car in the left lane suddenly swerved toward me. I think the other driver was trying to avoid a vehicle that was pulling in from a side road, but his evasive maneuver left me with limited options if I wanted to avoid an accident. Which was the case, of course. There wasn't room to accelerate to get ahead of him and there was a high curb on my right which would have trashed my tires and wheels if I'd struck it, so I laid on the horn to remind the other driver that he wasn't actually alone on the roadway while I slammed on the brakes. There was no collision, so by the time we approached the next traffic signal, I'd chalked it up to one of those things and was already over it.
Except the light was red, and all of the sudden the passenger door of the car I'd avoided hitting flew open, and the passenger climbed out and started stalking menacingly toward me. I only had seconds to consider my options before the muscular and angry man reached my side of the car. And then I realized that he wasn't looking at me at all and was instead beginning to gesticulate toward someone else--perhaps the vehicle that caused them to swerve in the first place. I don't think the driver was on board for the confrontation because as soon as the light changed to green, he pulled away and turned into a nearby parking lot. As I pulled away I watched the passenger in my rear-view mirror as he continued to storm down the sidewalk, clearly frustrated in his attempt to exact retribution.
Either way the whole was really quite bizarre. It was over so quickly I didn't actually have time to be scared so much as bewildered. It's just not something I understand.
Crazy! I am glad he wasn't stalking over to you after all.
